I was responsible for cutting the live footage together and telling the director/floor manager when cameras were out of focus or needed to be changed.
During the performance there were few communication issues as the floor manager was easily able to walk between the crew to make sure everything was working well. When issues arose with our camera person, the floor manager went to deal with it and it was resolved quickly.
My job role was vision mixer which is to cut the footage throughout my crews section of the performance. This involved watching the footage on the mac and cutting to the beat of the music. I enjoyed doing this as I was able to get the hang of it quickly.
I feel that the evening went well as there were no major issues. Everyone worked well together and got on with the job they were given, even if it meant stepping in and helping someone out. If I were to do this performance recording again I would be more confident in knowing exactly what to do and when. I would also give another job role a go if needed.
Everyone in my crew knew what they were doing and where they had to be for their part of the night. The running order was changed before the performance started and we had to change which section we were recording. However this was not a major issue as we were only shifted a few items.
There were some health and safety concerns to take in to consideration such as the wires laid out around the room. These wires/cables could be a tripping hazard and were tapped down on the floor. Other equipment being used were the tripods and cameras which if nocked could fall over and the legs of the tripods could be tripped on. This was resolved by making sure the legs were in a place that they couldn’t be tripped on, or the camera person would stand on that side to block the hazard. Also, the cameras were securely placed on the tripods.
