The company which I have done the promotional video for have changed their logo over the summer, the new logo will be added to the promotional video and in to my work.
Below are two videos which are promoting a similar topic to the one we are creating a promotional video for: Derby High School Swim Team https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lD6qhRWbr8 Editing techniques The editing is fairly fast paced to match the upbeat music and there's also cutting to the beat featured mostly throughout the video. Having cutting to the beat builds the viewer’s excitement especially because it's a fast paced track so a shot doesn't stay longer than a second on the screen. Fast forward was used in the beginning two scenes to show these shots very quickly and to add an effect. Cinematography The video starts off with a wide long shot of the swimming pool to establish the setting. Then pans to show the surrounding of the swimming pool. There is a low angle shot from underwater of the swimmers. A close up of the equipment in the swimming pool. There was also a lot of long shots in this video to show the actions of the swimmers and tracking shots to track the actions. Iconography, Codes and Conventions Like any swim club video this too featured a swimming pool, close up shots of the surrounding pool area, it also had underwater shots of people swimming. Having an underwater shot lets the viewer experience how it looks/feels to be underwater. Setting As you can tell from the surrounding and the establishing shot in the beginning of the video, it is set in a swimming pool Audio codes - Diegetic There is no dialogue or any type of on screen sound in this video. Audio codes - Non-Diegetic There is an upbeat sound track throughout the video. Mood The mood of the video is fun and exciting due to the music and the shots of people having fun and smiling. Audience The audience for this is the Derby High School students since the video doesn't say or show anything about who they are targeting except for the students in the video. Editing Techniques They have used short quick transitions in this video to cut from one shot to another. Cinematography There is a pan shot showing the swimming pools and a few crane shots of the pools, sun deck, playground, picnic area and other surroundings. There are also some crane shots that start from a high angle and medium shots of the playground. During the end there were close ups of a person swimming towards the camera and a close up of images on the boards around the facility. Iconography, codes and conventions There is an underwater shot featured near the end of the video and there are long shots of the pool. Setting It is set in a leisure facility due to other activities shown such as a playground and a fire pit. Audio codes - Diegetic No dialogue or diegetic sound was featured on this video. Audio codes - Non-Diegetic An upbeat happy soundtrack is played throughout the whole video. Mood the mood looks relaxing as the transitions are slow and the camera movements are smooth. Audience The audience for this video are both kids and adults of both genders as there are facilities for everyone. This unit is designed to provide you with the understanding, knowledge and skills required to plan and produce corporate and promotional programmes. This will be of particular use to those of you who plan to work in production, as the majority of work available in this area is in the corporate sector. Your production company has been approached by a local secondary school to produce a video that will be used to promote their institution to the parents of potential students. You are required to devise an original idea for a video that will promote a local swim school to the parents of potential students. You will need to work closely with the school to pitch an idea to produce an engaging video that reflects the ethos and strengths of the institution. You must then develop your idea through the various stages of pre-production, production and post-production before delivering your finished piece to the client. Proposal: We were given the topic of Corporate Videos and we decided to do a promotional video for a small business, the business we choose was Phillie's Swim School. As a member of the group works for Phillie's Swim school, it allows us to add in underwater footage as the member of the group is covered under the clubs insurance, and is CRB checked for being in the pool. this will help us to improve our final outcome. The target audience for this film is the parents of potential students of the swim school. We are aiming the video at them to show them all the good qualities of the swim school - for example; the club is not over crowded like many swimming clubs, as each group is only three kids and there will normally be up to six groups in the pool at one time; and as the groups are very small, each child gets a lot of one-to-one time with the teacher, which means each child gets the attention they need, improving their learning. The ideal place for Phillie's Swim School to screen this film would be somewhere public, where a lot of the target audience are going to look, for example:
The promo will show underwater video as well as footage above the water, to show the variety of learning available. This will show children of the age group they might start swimming at which is appealing to the target audience because the children shown in the video will likely be the same age as their own children, attracting them to send them to this swim school. It will also show the teachers at the swim school in the video, showing off confident teaching and presenting some of the techniques they might use to effectively teach their students. The film will also so child learners in a range of skill levels, from beginners to advanced swimmers. The people featured in the video will mainly be a specific group of children (who all have permission to be shown) and their teacher. Most of the staff will be featured, and there will be an interview with Phillie Charlesworth, she will be featured heavily. The entire video will be filmed in and around the pool, as well as outside. My group created a mood board which shows different lighting and angles used in the pool surroundings, as well as the different colours.
My lesson objectives: To understand what equipment is needed. To understand how and where to set up the equipment for filming. To be able to explain why equipment should be set up properly. What equipment do you need when filming? Camera Battery Charger SD card Tripod Lights Green Screen Clapper Board Microphone Dolly Track Fig-rig Light Reflectors I asked for a volunteer during my lesson to set up a tripod and camera ready for filming. This task went well as my volunteer was able to set up and explain what they were doing and why they were doing it. This is helpful as it makes sure everyone has a brief understanding on the proper way to set the equipment used when filming. After the practical task I asked the group to fill out the worksheet below by answering the following questions.
After this task I let the class watch the three videos below to show examples of when equipment is in the wrong place, set up wrong and the cameraman is not aware of their surroundings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87taDYqYgf4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OHrJEQvTlw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRS-CAEL06o
In today's lesson we were given the task of cutting and folding together a Chinese Fortune Teller. This practical is a micro teach, and aims to help the understanding of the subject.
Inside the fortune teller there were questions and answers linked with intellectual properties. These were: What type of IP rights applies to invention? A parent is the IP right that protects an invention. Which type of creativity might copyright protected? Copyright protects creative works like photographs, sculptures, websites, plays, books, videos, databases, films and maps. Would you have to apply for copyright? In the UK copyright is an automatic IP right and applies as soon as the work is fixed. Are patents top secret? You must not publicly reveal your invention and should keep it secret before you apply for a patent otherwise it may put your chances of being granted a patent at risk. How would you protect the external appearance of a product? Design right protects the outward look of a product including colour, shape, texture and pattern. How might you protect a logo or a name? Trade marks are signs which distinguish goods and services from each other. Includes words, logos, pictures or a combination of these. How can you tell is a trade mark is registered? When a trade mark is registered you can use it to indicate this. Before registration you could use TM. Can you patent pictures? Pictures are automatically protected by copyright. Remember to sign and date your creation and mark it with a ©. Promotional Video:Institutions: (Who are the company being promoted and who made the video?)
